Joint accounts and giving others access to your banking

Personal account ownership

All our current account products are designed as personal accounts, meaning the banking facilities cannot be shared between two people. As the sole account holder, only you can access online banking, possess the banking card, and make all decisions regarding your account.

When you need help managing your account

We understand that some customers may need assistance managing their banking due to vulnerability or other circumstances. In these situations, we offer two main solutions:

Third-party authorisation

If you need someone to help manage your account, we offer third-party authorisation that can be set up at any of our branches. This process requires both you (the account holder) and your chosen third party to be present together.

What you'll need:

  • Proof of address (dated within the last 2 months) for both parties
  • Valid proof of ID for both parties
  • Completion of our third-party form in the branch

What third-party access includes: Once registered, your third party can visit any branch to:

  • Withdraw funds
  • Complete transfer requests
  • Cancel direct debits
  • Set up standing orders
  • Handle other banking forms on your behalf

Important limitations:

  • Third parties must present proof of ID each time they visit a branch
  • Third-party access does NOT include online banking privileges
  • Only the account holder can register for and use online banking

Power of attorney

For customers with more complex needs or legal requirements, we also accept properly documented Power of Attorney arrangements. This provides a more comprehensive legal framework for account management.

Online Banking remains exclusive

Regardless of third-party arrangements, online banking access remains exclusively available to the account holder. This security measure ensures your digital banking remains under your direct control while still allowing trusted individuals to assist with in-branch transactions when needed.

For more information about setting up third-party access or discussing your specific needs, please visit your nearest branch or click here for more information.
