If your situation changes and you find you no longer need your current account, no problem. Just let us know, and we'll close it for you.
The ways to contact us are:
- Submit a Help Ticket (replies within one working day)
- Contact our Help Desk on 02037731751 (option 4)
- Email us at help@creditunion.co.uk
Before you close your account
Before asking us to close your account, please make sure that:
- You've let your employer or DWP know so that any regular payments into your account (such as salary or benefits) go into your new account
- You've switched any regular payments out of your account, such as bills, subscriptions, and other regular payments
Keeping up with bills
Once we close your account, all your standing orders, direct debits, and subscriptions will stop, and we will cancel your debit card.
Because of this, if you've been using your current account to pay bills, you must let your suppliers know. They can help you set up a new payment method to avoid disruption or missed payments.
Retaining your membership
Even if you no longer need your current account, we hope you'll stick with us as a member and continue to save with us. Keeping your savings separate from your current account makes sense, as there will be less temptation to dip into your savings!
If you'd like to start using your Membership Account to save, there are a few ways.
- Deposit cash in our Branches (opening days and times can be found here )
- Set up a regular Direct Debit or a one-off payment (click here to get started)
- Set up a Salary Deduction (check here for more information)
How long does it take
Most accounts will be closed overnight once you've made your request. However, some account closures can take up to 7 working days, so don't worry if yours isn't closed straight away.
