A recurring charge, also called a subscription payment, is a regular payment taken automatically from your card. This could be for things like streaming services, gym memberships, or app subscriptions. The payment continues until you cancel it directly with the company.
How to cancel a recurring charge
To stop a recurring payment, you need to log in to the merchant's website or app using the login details you created when you signed up for the service. Then go to the subscription or billing section, which is usually under "Account," "Billing," or "Payments."
Follow the on-screen instructions to cancel or turn off auto-renewal. Look for confirmation afterwards - you may receive an email confirming the cancellation, so keep this for your records.
Important information
Only the merchant or company charging you can stop a subscription payment. Your bank or card provider cannot cancel it for you unless the payment is fraudulent or unauthorised.
If you're unsure who is charging you, check your transaction history for the merchant name and contact them directly. You can also contact us if you need help identifying a transaction or if you believe a charge is unauthorised.
Remember that some companies require you to cancel before your next billing date to avoid being charged again.
