We've become aware that some of our members are receiving fraudulent emails claiming to be from London Mutual. These emails state that you applied for a loan some time ago and that it is now ready to be released. They then ask you to email your bank details, such as your sort code and account number, so the funds can be paid.
These emails are not from us. They are sent by scammers trying to obtain your personal or banking information.
How to tell if an email is genuine
There are a few simple things to look out for:
- We will not email you offering a loan unless you have recently applied for one.
- We will never ask you to provide your bank details, passwords, or PINs by email.
- Genuine emails from us will only come from @creditunion.co.uk or @cuonline.org.uk.
Some scam emails have been sent from addresses such as:
- @mutualcreditunion.co.uk
- @londoncreditunion.co.uk
These are not our email domains.
If you receive a suspicious email
If you receive an unexpected email about a loan:
- Do not click on any links or open attachments.
- Do not reply to the email.
- Do not provide any personal or banking information.
- Forward the email to help@creditunion.co.uk so we can investigate.
- Mark the email as Spam or Junk in your email provider.
If you've already responded
If you've shared your bank details or believe you've been affected by a scam, contact your bank immediately. You should also report the incident to the police through Report Fraud.
