Saving as you repay a loan

As a credit union, we strongly encourage anyone who borrows with us to save at the same time as they repay their loan.

How Much to Save

Typically, we encourage members to pay a little extra on top of their loan repayments each month. For unemployed and lower-income members, we usually suggest £10, and for those currently working, a minimum of £20.

Building Good Habits

Paying a little bit extra each month means that you will build up a pot of savings at the same time as you repay your loan. This can be a great way to get into the habit of regular saving if it's not something you are used to doing.

How It Works

We lock your savings for as long as you are repaying your loan, so you won't be able to withdraw them. However, once the amount you have saved is greater than the amount still left to repay, you do have the option of repaying the loan early.

Alternatively, you can keep going and build up a healthy pot of savings without hassle or fuss. Savings mean you have choices and might even mean you won't need to borrow next time.
