London Mutual was founded in 1982 by a small group of volunteers as Southwark Council Employees Credit Union.
In the almost 40 years since then, London Mutual has grown rapidly. In 1997, we opened membership to all employees of King's College Hospital NHS Trust, to become Southwark and Kings Employees Credit Union, and two years later, in 1999, to anyone living or working in Southwark, becoming Southwark Credit Union.
in the years since, Southwark Credit Union merged with a number of other local credit unions including Camberwell Health Authority Credit Union (1997), Camberwell Credit Union (2001), Lambeth Savings and Credit Union (2010), Pimlico Credit Union (2012), and most recently Camden Plus Credit Union (2013), becoming London Mutual Credit Union in 2010.
