Applying for a loan if you are unemployed

You can apply if you are unemployed as long as you are receiving regular income from Universal Credit or other benefits.

As a community lender, we are happy to be a source of affordable credit for everyone, including those who are not currently working or who rely on benefits as their main source of income.

Loan Products

Several of our loan products are available to unemployed members, including Growth Loans, Child Benefit Loans and the Saver Loan.

Regardless of which type of loan you go for, typically the largest amount we are able to lend to unemployed members is £1,200, starting at £600 if this is your first loan with us.

Repaying Your Loan

If you are unemployed, our Loans Team may ask you to arrange to have one or more of the benefits you received paid into your credit union current account, so that your loan repayments can be taken directly each month.

If we need to ask you to do this as a condition of offering you a loan, we will let you know, and explain how it works and how to set everything up.
