The time it takes for your payment or transfer to reach someone depends on the type of payment method you use and when you make the transfer.
Faster Payments
Most payments sent through online banking or mobile apps use the Faster Payments system, which typically delivers money within seconds or minutes. These payments are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays.
Standing Orders and Direct Debits
Standing orders are usually processed early in the morning on the scheduled date, while direct debits are typically collected during the night of the working day before the due date.
Bank Transfers Between Different Banks
Transfers between different banks using Faster Payments method takes a few minutes to complete.
International Transfers
We do not have the facility to transfer money to foreign bank accounts.
Factors That May Cause Delays
Several factors can affect transfer times:
- Payments made outside normal banking hours may be processed the next working day
- Bank holidays and weekends can delay standard transfers
- Large amounts may require additional security checks
- International transfers may face delays due to time zone differences and compliance checks
