Summary
If you enter your card's PIN incorrectly three times in a row, your card will be temporarily locked, and you will be unable to use it again until it is unlocked. This can happen even if you enter your PIN at different shops or businesses.
If this happens, don't worry - follow these steps to get yourself up and running again.
Where to unlock your PIN
If you are sure you know your PIN and have just entered it incorrectly by accident, you can unlock it yourself at any UK cash machine that offers PIN services. These types of machines are usually the free-to-use ones provided outside the main high street banks. Machines located in places like corner shops or leisure centres typically won't provide this service.
Steps to Follow
You will need to follow the steps below at the cash machine. After unlocking, it will take overnight before you can use your card again in shops, so you may also want to take out some cash to tide you over in the meantime.
- Insert your card into the machine
- Enter your PIN
- Select 'PIN services'
- Select 'PIN management'
- Select 'Unblock PIN'
- The screen will then display the word 'successful'.
If you don't know your PIN
If you have forgotten your PIN, you can retrieve it by login in to your Online Banking App with us or you can request one to be sent by post. You can email your PIN reminder request or call Helpdesk line from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. The first time you use your new PIN, you'll need to activate it by making a Chip & PIN transaction or by withdrawing cash from a cash machine using the PIN we have sent you.
